Getting a job at 16 how? and what to bring?

well im looking for a job because i want to have a car and pay for it i just want to know what to do to get an application...for a job like kfc/quiznos etc do i just walk up to the counter and ask for an application? and for jobs like target and a grocery store, who do i go talk to? and what should i bring with me?
