How do you quote quotes for an essay?

well you could put that, and you wouldnt put a period after the little () thing, you would put it after the word ME. But anouther way you could do it is after that quote you could put a [1] and then at the end of your essay you would give credit to were ever that came from. what book, who said it, ETC.
