Xbox live question please help!?

im wondering i have a labtop could i somehow plug in a ethernet cable into it and get xbox live? cuz i mgiht have to stay somewhere where theres internet but no modem or router just a wireless broadband if my labtop is connected to internet could i get xbox live from it? thanks please answer!!
