Need advice! PLEASE HELP!!!?

Ok so its like this. Im a college sophomore looking to get into med school, so I looked into research at the hospital. Through absolute magic I got an invite from the Chief of Cardiology to be a researcher in the cardio center and also an invite from the Chief of surgery! I had an appointment to meet with the Chief of surgery one day but somehow the appointment I took down and the appointment his secretary had on file didn't match so of course I never showed and seem irresponsible. I never talked to the chief directly, only through his secretary. This happened in late May and every email I send to his secretary gets the same reply "Dr. so and so is out of the office at the moment but I will give him your message."Currently Im working for the chief of Cardio which is great. Im making big progress and im getting noticed alot in the cardio center. I see the chief around the hospital from time to time but he doesn't know im the kid from the emails. My dream is to work for the chief so I can gain a big leg up into getting accepted into med school but how and when should I approach him? Do you think I should wait a while until my reputation has built?
